Weekend Update #3
By the end of last week I caught a throat infection which then manifested into a cold. Or perhaps it was Covid. Either way, I've been hunkered down for most of the week.
I did wind up creating a Bluesky account, perhaps as a result of not feeling myself. I stopped using Twitter back in 2014 (my account is lost to the sands of time). Even by that point it had begun its journey to enshittification and I had lost all interest in it. I'm not sure I'll stick around on Bluesky as it feels very similar. Within seconds of creating my account it had already been followed by a bunch of bots. It's also just another excuse to mindlessly scroll so I can't see myself getting much out of it.
Listening…
I don't tend to listen to much Christmas music (in December or otherwise) but stumbled across Cookin Soul's remix of some MF DOOM vocals. The result is this:
Fun listen. You can even pick up a physical copy for the cool price of just 500 bucks on Discogs!
Playing…
I picked up Spider-Man 2 last week and then instantly felt guilty I never got round to playing Spider-Man: Miles Morales, which has been sitting untouched since I bought my PS5 back in 2020.
I decided to boot it up before playing Spider-Man 2 and boy am I glad I did. I hadn't realised the game is set during Christmas so it's felt pretty apt playing it at the moment. Some of the early story beats can be a little on the nose, but it takes a slightly more adult and darker tone by the time the third act swings around. By that point, I was surprised how invested I was in Miles' story. I really grew to like him as a character.
The gameplay feels very familiar to the last instalment. I don't think that should be taken as a criticism though. Combat is very satisfying and isn't overly difficult to become competent at. The new Venom ability allows you to chain together some powerful attacks.
The open world doesn't feel like it's moved on much from the last game — which I suppose is to be expected. New York in the winter is very pretty to look at. Having just returned from a trip to there, it's awesome to walk (or rather, swing) around the city and visit spots we went to. It was a little disorienting at times since the world isn't 1:1.
I'm really glad I played it before hopping onto Spider-Man 2. I've got a new found appreciation for Miles; so much so I'll probably stick around a bit longer and grab the Platinum trophy.
Watching…
Save for watching the finale to this season's Great British Bake Off, I haven't had a whole lot of time to watch much TV inbetween battling a cold, work and squezing in some video games.
Reading…
I am in a real rut with reading at the moment. I've started a couple of books but not made much progress. I ended up ordering a copy of The Medici: Godfathers of the Renaissance by Paul Strathern. I'm determined to start and finish this over the winter break.
