Weekend Update #5

#WEEKEND-UPDATE

We are now in the twilight zone between Christmas and New Year. We had a great festive period. We hosted my wife's family on Christmas Eve and then spent the day itself at her sister's. I wasn't quite prepared (physically or sartorially) for the 2 hour, 7km 'brisk' morning walk on Christmas Day however…

My wife bought me a Kindle Paperwhite for Christmas. While I do prefer physical copies of books (particularly for those of the non-fiction variety), I am not diametrically opposed to eBooks. They are undeniably convenient. To date, I've only ever read eBooks through my iPhone or iPad. That is a perfectly fine experience, with a few caveats. Reading on a iPhone isn't easy due to the screen size but switching over to an iPad brings new problems in the form of how bulky it can be. Even removing the Magic Keyboard from my iPad to read still leaves me feeling that the screen size is now a bit overkill.

So the Kindle Paperwhite feels like a good alternative. I feel slightly guilty knowing I'll be funding Amazon even more; but in fairness I was doing that regardless as most of my eBooks were bought from the Amazon storefront.

Listening…

Christmas festivities have gotten in the way a bit this last week so I have not been going out of my way to listen to anything in particular.

Playing…

Thanks to the copious amount of free time the holidays have so generously gifted me, I've been able to waste the hours away on Elder Scrolls Online. The problem with MMOs is that I wind up playing them so intensely over a short period in a desperate pursuit of childhood nostalgia (I played a lot of World of Warcraft as a teenager), that I quickly crash and burn out on them. If I'm still playing it next month I'd be amazed.

Watching…

A whole boatload of nothing. There's been nothing of interest on to watch during the Christmas period. Traditional television feels like it's in a rut and nothing really stood out to me on the streaming services either.

Reading…

I am still, slowly, reading The Medici: Godfathers of the Renaissance by Paul Strathern.

Ive also picked up a copy of Jason Schreier's new book Play Nice: The Rise, Fall and Future of Blizzard Entertainment which is fascinating. I grew up on a lot of Blizzard games (the aforementioned World of Warcraft being one of them) so it has been interesting peaking behind the curtain.
